Mode = Share Deny Write
I am currently testing the conversion to Access 2007 from Access 1997. I have discovered an anomaly in the external access process to Access 2007 databases. If you connect to the Access 2007 databases via pivot tables etc, you use the Microsoft Office 12.0 Access database Engine OLE DB provider. The connection string default for this connection type has the “mode” defaulted to “Share Deny Write”.
The problem with this is that is one user opens an Excel file that has a pivot table with this connection setting, the database is “locked”. Any other user who tries to open this database will be forced to open it read only. If I change this Mode to “Read”, all is well and other users are able to open the database with write access.
My question is where can I change the connection string defaults for this provider to set this mode value to default to “read”?
